What is Non-Destructive Testing?

Simply put, Non-Destructive Testing is a range of techniques that allow inspectors to gather information on a material or piece of equipment without causing any damage. NDT plays an important role in Risked Based Inspections, identifying defects across all phases of an asset’s life cycle. Proper use of NDT is cost-effective, will improve the overall health of your assets, and could significantly reduce future maintenance.

We offer a range of NDT techniques, including; ultrasonic testing/inspection, magnetic particle testing (MPI), dye penetrant testing (DPI), and structural testing of lighting columns. For a full breakdown of these techniques, head to our Services page.

Ultrasonic weld Inspection

Ultrasonic Testing, also known as ultrasonic inspection, is an NDT service that can both detect flaws in a component and measure material thickness. Ultrasonic inspection makes use of sound waves to detect defects and It can be used on a variety of materials, such as steel, other metals and alloys to detect and map corrosions.

Ultrasonic Inspection-Forgings

Forged bars and plates undergo tremendous levels of stress and as such it’s incredibly important to make sure they are up to the required standards for continued use. Our technicians are qualified to PCN Level 2 to inspect plates, bars, billets and general forgings.

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) is one of the most widely used non-destructive testing methods for identifying both surface and near sub-subsurface defects on ferromagnetic welds and all other parts.

Dye Penetrant Testing

Dye penetrant testing (DPI) is widely considered the most common non-destructive testing method, enabling our technicians to detect surface flaws such as hairline cracks, surface porosity and fatigue cracks on in-service components on a wide range of materials including stainless steel, aluminium and various cast components.

Visual Inspection

Visual inspections by trained NDT technicians are a useful and often neglected technique.
For inaccessible areas, our technicians deploy boroscopes to inspect enclosed locations from small access points.

Structural Testing of Lighting Columns

We have been hired by many local authorities and contractors across the UK for our lighting column inspections. Our structural testing of lighting columns includes a detailed structural testing of both concrete and steel, loss of section monitoring both below and above the ground, hot swaged joint assessment, Ultrasonic testing and Magnetic particle inspection.
